NEC Still Video Camera Prototype

Just when you thought you had seen pretty much anything, this baby pops up out of nowhere. During one of my latest in-depth researches I stumbled upon this weird prototype dummy camera. At first I clicked it away but at second glance I was fascinated. This is one of those early still video dummy mock-ups from the early days of still video technology. NEC built it and used it for demonstration or design purposes (this is my best guess).

It looks like they wanted to combine several technologies into one device and make it more versatile for the ever demanding consumer. Apart from some very obvious buttons the rest is completely in the dark. Here is what can be seen or is known about this futuristic looking device. My best guess is that it would date from around 1988 when sound recording was added to still video devices.

The brand name "Secura" is well known in Japan and described NEC's business line.
