Kodak DC215 Metallics (1999)

In 1999 Kodak launched the DC215 Zoom in a plain silver body. They also launched the DC215 Zoom Millennium in a gold colored body (for $100 more). Not too many still know that Kodak also had plans for the so-called 'DC215 Metallics' and it's just my job to dig up stuff like this! Yes, in Fall of 1999 Kodak had plans to market this camera in five bizarre colors with bizarre sounding names. Available only to US customers. All the marketing was done, a website page was made but Kodak pulled the plug on this one soon after. Why? Dunno. The cameras would cost $100 more than the normal edition and would have come with the same package content as the DC215 millennium edition.

The five models that could have reached cult status were:

- Twilight Illusion (dark blue version)
- Solar Blast (yellow version)
- Caribbean Blue (ocean-like blue version)
- Purple Ice (purple version)
- Cobalt Waves (blue and black circles version)

Apart from the Cobalt Waves camera, all other models have been built and are currently residing in the vaults of the George Eastman House. Check out the pictures above.

Update 04/2017: On an auction plattform the dark blue version has surfaced! So apparently one or some of the have been marketed. Also the entire display stand you see above has been sold for $200! Shame all the cameras were dummies though.

Update 08/2018: On an auction plattform the purple ice version has surfaced. This one we could aquire for our vast collection.
