Toshiba DataPlay Prototypes (2001)

CES 2001 and CeBIT 2001 unveiled a new storage and media technology. The DataPlay Disc. A 250MB/500MB optical digital disc that could store music, video and images. Among the few companies that supported this technology were Samsung, Pretec and Toshiba. Toshiba took their PDR-M70 model and equipped it with a DataPlay Disc drive. The camera was said to be fully operational and pictures could actually be taken in the booth. Toshiba also demonstrated a rather unconventional digital camera in a very futuristic design to go with the new technology. No need to mention that the entire production line became vaporware one year later.
