Fujifilm MX-1500 (1999)

The Fujifilm MX-1500 was more of an exotic digital camera as it did not entirely fit in with the other digital cameras Fujifilm marketed at the time. Fuji announced it on 1999-05-18 together with the more sophisticated MX-2900Z. According to Fujifilm Japan, the MX-1500 packed a high picture quality of 1.5 million pixels into the world's smallest, lightest, most stylish and slimmest body (in the megapixel class).

The CCD was newly developed for this model by the way. The camera was made of a high quality, corrosion resistant aluminum alloy, had mostly automatic functions and something called best framing function that allowed easy shooting of beautiful images even for those who are new to digital cameras. In other words a versatile digital camera for a wide audience. One thing is true however, this "best framing function" could indeed not be found in any other digital camera. Another function, jointly developed with Pioneer, was a "Map Viewer function" which combined digital camera images with map data and could be used on a personal computer or a car navigation system. The japanese name for the camera was FinePix 1500.

Fujifilm Japan marketed this camera in thee original colors. 'Metallic Silver', 'Juicy Orange' and 'Mint Green'. Only the metallic silver version was sold worldwide, the other two colors in Japan only. It was the world's first digital camera that was marketed in mint metallic. One picture however shows a blue metallic camera but this could be due to a mistake in color reproduction.

Update 2017-04-15: a good acquaintance of mine has recently discovered an orange version of this camera. It turned out that the camera was indeed marketed as 'Juicy Orange' but in fact the camera is more gold than orange. Take a look at the battery compartment above, you can see the orange inner body and the gold case surrounding it.
