Fujifilm DX-5 (1997)

The Fuji DX-5 was announced 1997-04-03. It was called Clip-It DS-10 in Japan. It went on sale in Japan 1997-05-01. Only two weeks after Fuji announced their new 4MB smart media card (around $80 in 2015 dollars!). The japanese "clip-it" series was created to give regular consumers the feeling of having a digital camera and just "snap a picture" wherever they wanted. It had an optical viewfinder, status LCD and a pop-out flash.

The camera was a very basic digicam. No manual settings, no LCD screen. This was chosen specifically to keep costs down. The camera did very well and Fuji sold 500,000 units within one year!
