Sony MVC-FD81 Hawaii Open 1999

Sony MVC-FD81 'Sony Open Edition' (1999)

Sony introduced the MVC-FD81 in 1998. Sony also hosts the 'Sony Open' in Hawaii, an event that takes place since 1965, a professional golf tournament during the PGA Tour. So, for this event they re-labeled the regular MVC-FD81 with a special plaque which displays the 'Sony Open' logo and the year 1999. I strongly support the idea that this model presented here was either a (raffle) prize or an incentive for VIPs (likely as Sony hosts this event). The plaque at the front of the camera is quite thick and very solid. It is polished metal and the letters are embossed. This is a classy plaque and not just a simple removeable decal.

I have never seen another camera like this before or after I got mine, so there is no telling as to how many of these cameras were given out. Given the circumstances I call this a rarity and added it to this section.
